The following is issued on behalf of the Wan Chai District Council:
A sea, land and sky parade will be held this Sunday (September 27) afternoon at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai and the harbour area in front of it. Some 1,000 people will participate in the performance and parade to show the vitality of Wan Chai and celebrate with the public the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).
"Wan Chai District Sea, Land and Sky Grand Parade in Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" is jointly organised by the Wan Chai District Council and Wan Chai District Office, and sponsored by the Wan Chai District Council.
More than 10 vessels including a fire boat, a Chinese sail boat "Adventure Ship", a Star Ferry and yachts from the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, will take part in the sea parade off Golden Bauhinia Square. Four helicopters from the Government Flying Service and Heliservices (HK) Limited, the leading one displaying the national flag, will have a fly-past over the square. About 300 district personalities and representatives from uniformed groups will join the land parade at the square and the nearby waterfront area, waving the national and HKSAR flags.
After the parade, artistes including Kate Tsui, Grace Wong, Loretta Chow and performers from 14 district groups will stage a variety show comprising a magic show, singing and dancing, lion dances and martial arts performances.
Members of the public can also have fun at games booths specially designed with the theme of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of PRC, from 2pm to 5.30pm. Games coupons may be obtained from the Wan Chai District Office's Public Enquiry Service Centre at G/F, O'Brien Road, Wan Chai, from today till Friday (September 25). Coupons will also be distributed at the venue on Sunday, on a first-come-first-served basis.
People interested in vintage cars should not miss the chance to take a look at the 10 classic models on display during the same period.
The opening ceremony will be held at 3pm and the half-hour grand parade will start around 3.15pm. Members of the public are welcome to come and share the joyful atmosphere.
