Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company which has been operating a clubhouse with a certificate of compliance (CoC) was today (September 23) fined $2,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts heard that the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected a clubhouse in Nathan Road, Mong Kok, in April this year. OLA officers, posing as customers, patronised the club. They found the layout of the clubhouse deviated from the registered drawing, with an extra number of sofas, chairs and tables. Condition 3 of the CoC was breached. The company, being the CoC holder, was subsequently charged with contravening Section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
