Tsim Sha Tsui's Canton Road was turned into an arts boulevard and an arena for more than 100 local artists and performers this afternoon (September 20) to showcase the diverse local arts culture.
The Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; Chief Executive Officer of 2009 East Asian Games (Hong Kong) Limited Mr Johnny Woo; Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council, Mr Chung Kong-mo; Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council Organising Committee on Publicity and Promotion of East Asian Games, Mr Chan Siu-tong; District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), Mrs Vicki Kwok; Hong Kong Table Tennis Team members Li Ching and Ko Lai Chak; and Hong Kong Swimming Team member Sherry Tsai Hiu-wai officiated at the opening of the "Celebrating National Day and Welcoming East Asian Games ¡V Yau Tsim Mong Community Arts Spectacle".
Yau Tsim Mong is the first of the 18 districts to hold community arts festivals. The event is jointly organised by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office and Yau Tsim Mong District Council Organising Committee on Publicity and Promotion of East Asian Games under the auspices of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council.
The workshop, "East Asia ¡V Art & Cultural Travel", set up by Hong Kong Arts Centre and local artist Law Yuk-mui became a cultural imagination space for the public. Singing, dancing and street performances also attracted many people.
Apart from Yau Tsim Mong district, all District Offices, District Councils and community groups will join to organise community arts festivals to offer a wide variety of free cultural and arts performances from this month to December.
