Home Affairs Bureau's response
******************************

In response to media enquiries concerning a rally today (September 20), the Home Affairs Bureau reiterated that both the Secretary for Home Affairs and the Islands District Officer had absolutely no intention and had indeed not put any pressure on the staff deployment of the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association, nor interfered with social workersˇ¦ professional autonomy.

"Although we have repeatedly clarified and responded to the various concerns raised recently at a case conference in the Legislative Council, we deeply regret that some individuals and organisations continued to make totally unfounded and inaccurate allegations. Such allegations are grossly irresponsible," a spokesman for the Bureau said.

Hong Kong is a diversified society which enjoys freedom of expression. The HKSAR Government respects the expression of different opinions, the spokesman said.

"It has been a major policy of the Home Affairs bureau to foster social harmony. We hope that various sectors of the society will join hands to build a harmonious community with mutual respect," the spokesman stressed.
