*****************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Tuen Mun District Council:

A dazzling pyrotechnics display lit up the sky above Tuen Mun tonight (September 19) in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

With the Acting Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Michael Suen, officiating the display was organised by the Tuen Mun District Festive Activities Co-ordinating Working Group of the Tuen Mun District Council and the Tuen Mun Committee for National Day Celebration.

Lasting for about 20 minutes and divided into eight scenes, the colourful and specially-designed pyrotechnics display was accompanied by background music revolving around the theme, such as the national anthem, the 2009 East Asian Games theme song and the Yellow River Concerto, to present a stunning audio-visual experience for people watching.

For the first time in Hong Kong, a pyrotechnics screen 100 metres high and 600 metres wide was created off the sea with pyrotechnics discharged by one barge at the centre and three pontoons on the sides. Special effects were choreographed to craft a spectacular impact, glittering in the sky above Tuen Mun.

Tens of thousands of people watched the display at the Tuen Mun Promenade and beaches in Tuen Mun, including Butterfly Beach, Golden Beach, Hong Kong Gold Coast Dolphin Square, Cafeteria Old Beach, Cafeteria New Beach, Kadoorie Beach and Castle Peak Beach.

The public also had a fun-filled evening at a large-scale beach concert staged at Golden Beach and Cafeteria New Beach today, featuring a variety of cultural performances, such as drumming, Chinese folk dancing, Chinese traditional "changing faces" and wushu.

The public dispersed orderly after the display. Eastbound Castle Peak Road was re-opened before 8.30pm.
