The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, today (September 17) visited a testing company in Lai Chi Kok to learn about its testing services and operation.
Mrs Lau was briefed that the company, which has over 1,600 employees, attained accredited test qualifications in such categories as chemicals, Chinese medicine, electronic and electrical products, environment, food, textiles and garments, toys and children's products, providing a wide range of testing services for various sectors. She visited the company's laboratory to see how electrical, textile and garment, furniture and chemical testing is conducted.
Mrs Lau said the local testing industry had established a good reputation in the region with its professionalism, integrity and knowledge of the international market. The testing and certification industry is one of the six key industries identified for promotion by the Task Force on Economic Challenges.
Noting that the Government had announced the establishment of the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification today, Mrs Lau said it demonstrated the Government's staunch support for the sustained development of the industry.
