Seven employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 14) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $122,000 on behalf of 73 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant Chong Fat Food Products Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $28,451.7, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, namely Chunghao Limited, American Nutrition Company Limited, Namwing Food and Beverage Company Limited trading as Shun Tin Restaurant, Profitway International Development Limited trading as Hung Mein Restaurant, Pacific Proceeds Investment Limited and New Emperor International Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $37,970.26, $37,254.83, $9,046.46, $5,010.23, $4,200 and $991, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $130, $160, $176, $90, $145, $135 and $96 as the costs in respect of the claims.
