The Leisure and Cultural Services Department launches the Nan Lian Garden Chinese Music Series again this year, starting with a guqin and pipa recital by Lui Pui-yuen and an erhu recital by Wang Guotong in October.
Lui Pui-yuen is known for his virtuosity in pipa and guqin. He is also familiar with many other types of Chinese string and wind instruments. His style, a fine blend of strength and delicacy, exemplifies both the traditional techniques of Jiangnan string and wind music and the new fingering of pipa of the last decade. He has given highly acclaimed concerts all over the world.
In the coming concert, he will perform solos and ensembles with renowned local xiao and dizi artist and xiao maker Tam Po-shek. The programme includes pipa solo "High Mountains and Flowing Water", "Falling Flowers Colouring the Green", "Ambuscade from All Sides"; xiao solo "Wild Geese Descending on the Sandbank", "Grief of Parting Crane"; pipa and xiao ensemble "Flowery Moon Night of Spring River", and many more.
"Guqin and Pipa Recital by Lui Pui-yuen" will be held at 7.30pm on October 10 and 11 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Xiang Hai Xuan Multi-purpose Hall, Nan Lian Garden. Tickets are priced at $200 with free seating.
Wang Guotong has been a renowned erhu master and music educator since the 1960s. In the coming concert, he will play with Ray Wong (erhu), Xu Lingzi (zheng), Guo Jiaying (yangqin) and Xie Daqun (piano). The programme includes "Searching for Plum Blossoms After a Snowfall" (erhu duet with piano), "Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon" (erhu solo with piano), "Fishermen's Nocturne" and "Autumn Moon in the Han Palace" (erhu and zheng), "Reflections of the Moon on the Waters" (erhu solo with yangqin), and more.
"Erhu Recital by Wang Guotong" will be at 7.30pm on October 12 (Monday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall, with tickets priced at $200 and $150; and on October 17 (Saturday) at the Xiang Hai Xuan Multi-purpose Hall, Nan Lian Garden. Tickets are priced at $150 with free seating.
Tickets are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
