A spokesperson of Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) made the following announcement today (September 11) regarding the death of a critical human swine influenza patientĄG
A 56-year-old male patient with lung cancer and chronic illnesses of hypertension and hyperlipidemia had flu symptoms on August 31. He was admitted to QMH for chemotherapy on September 3 and positive result of human swine influenza was confirmed on September 7. He was prescribed with Tamiflu. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. During hospitalisation, the patient was put on ventilation support. His condition continued to deteriorate and he was certified dead at 9.57 last night (September 10).
The case has been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and Centre for Health Protection. We would like to express our condolences to the patient's family.
