Appointment of Council Chairman of the Chinese University of Hong Kong

     The Government today (September 11) announced that the Chief Executive, in his capacity as the Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), had appointed Dr Vincent H C Cheng as Chairman of the CUHK Council for a term of three years starting from October 24.  Dr Cheng is currently a member of the CUHK Council, which is the governing and executive body of the university.

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, welcomed Dr Vincent Cheng's appointment.  
    
     "Dr Cheng has been very committed to serving the community and is widely recognised for his extensive and distinguished public service.  I am confident that CUHK will continue to scale new heights under his leadership," Mr Suen said.  

     Mr Suen also paid tribute to Dr Edgar Cheng, the outgoing chairman of the CUHK Council.

     "Over the past six years, Dr Edgar Cheng has made significant contribution to the continual development of CUHK.  Under his outstanding leadership, CUHK has gone from strength to strength in enhancing the quality of teaching and research.  CUHK's achievements during Dr Cheng's tenure have received wide recognition, not least by the leading positions in Asia in various renowned university rankings," he said.
