The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, today (September 8) continued his visit in Beijing calling on officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Council¡¦s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office.
At the meeting with Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr He Yafei this morning, Mr Lee thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (OCMFA) and Embassies/Consulates General for their support and assistance over the years.
"The Security Bureau has built very close working relations with OCMFA in Hong Kong. Whenever Hong Kong residents are in need of assistance overseas, the Security Bureau and the Immigration Department will, through OCMFA or the Embassies/Consulates General, look at the situation and provide the necessary assistance to the affected Hong Kong people," he said.
In the afternoon, Mr Lee attended a ceremony to witness the signing of the Letter of Intent for a Five-Year Plan on Technical Co-operation between the Rescue and Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Transport and the Government Flying Service of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The Controller of the Government Flying Service, Captain Michael Chan, and the Director General of the Rescue and Salvage Bureau, Captain Song Jiahui, signed the Letter of Intent, which aims to strengthen technical co-operation and exchange rescue experiences to enhance professional standards.
Mr Lee also met the Deputy Director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office Ms Hua Jian.
Mr Lee will continue with his Beijing visit tomorrow (September 9) before flying to Qingdao on Thursday (September 10). He will then fly to Guangzhou on Friday (September 11) before returning to Hong Kong on Saturday (September 12).
