Territory-wide operation against public light bus malpractices
**************************************************

Police issued 32 fixed penalty tickets and 11 summonses to public light bus (PLB) drivers during a territory-wide operation against traffic offences involving PLBs on August 31.

During the one-day operation, Police deployed plainclothes officers to pose as PLB passengers, set roadblocks and on-street vehicle examining stations with the assistance of a motor vehicle examiner to combat the traffic offences.

Thirty-two fixed penalty tickets were issued to the PLB drivers for various traffic offences including six for speeding and nine for failing to wear seatbelts. Eleven summonses were issued to four PLBs for non-compliance with the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations and one PLB driver was arrested for non-payment of fine.

Police have accorded high enforcement priority against passenger service vehicles committing traffic offences such as dangerous driving, careless driving, speeding and traffic light offences.

Police will continue to take enforcement action against those PLB routes which have been subject of public complaint with a view to improving road safety.
