Public urged to keep environment clean during Yue Lan Festival
******************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has reminded people to keep the environment clean and observe fire safety measures when burning joss paper and incense during the Yue Lan Festival tomorrow (September 2).

"They should take metal containers for burning incense, joss paper and sacrificial offerings," a department spokesman said today (September 1).

"They should also clean up the spots before leaving."

He said leaving ashes or burning offerings behind on the street not only created a dirty environment, but also posed a fire hazard.

"Any person who deposits refuse including ashes or incense in a public place commits a littering offence and is liable to a fixed penalty of $1,500." he said.
