Music Office to launch new "School Care Subsidy Scheme"
*******************************************************

School students have been invited to participate in the newly launched "Care and Concern Concert ¡V School Care Subsidy Scheme" to extend their care and good wishes to the underprivileged through musical performances and to cultivate civic awareness among students to serve the community.

The Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will launch the ¡§Care and Concern Concert ¡V School Care Subsidy Scheme¡¨ in 2009-10. The scheme, sponsored by Sino Group, provides subsidies to help primary, secondary and tertiary school music groups to organise music activities for the underprivileged.

The participants may combine music with other art forms in their performances to enrich the programme in a creative way as well as to build up their team spirit and organisational abilities during the production process.

The maximum amount of subsidy is $2,000 for each activity to cover production costs including transportation to and from the venue, instructors' allowance, refreshments and miscellaneous expenses.

Successful applicants have to complete the performance between November this year and March 2010. The Music Office professional staff and representatives of social welfare organisations will assess the performances given by the school music groups. The top 10 to 15 performing groups will be invited to give a performance and share their experience in a gala concert at an LCSD concert venue next July, and all participants of the scheme will be awarded certificates of commendation in the concert presentation ceremony.

The deadline for applications is September 21. Application forms are now available at LCSD¡¦s performing venues, all music centres of the Music Office and the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union Service Centres. They can also be downloaded from the website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice. Completed applications can be submitted by post, fax or in person to the Music Office Hong Kong Music Centre.

All applications will be rated on the performance's feasibility, ingenuity, the interactive elements in the content as well as the group's experience in organising activities. Applicants will be notified of the results within one month after the closing date.
