Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 453 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 16 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (August 28) and a total of 200 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 292 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 161 for other traffic offences.  

     Thirty-five pedestrians and 248 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,633 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year.

     Of them, 51.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
