United Christian Hospital (UCH) spokesperson made the following announcement today (August 25):
A 74-year-old male patient developed flu symptoms on August 18. He was admitted to isolation ward via the Accident and Emergency Department of UCH on August 21. He was given Tamiflu and antibiotics treatment on admission and was in stable condition during hospitalization. Viral test result of this patient was positive to Influenza A but negative to human swine influenza.
On August 22, patient strongly requested discharge against medical advice and signed the form. His clinical condition was stable at the time of discharge. UCH was informed on August 23 that the patient was found dead.
The positive result of Influenza A (H3) was confirmed today and the case has been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office.
