Influenza A outbreak at male ward of Tai Po Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson of Tai Po Hospital made the following announcement today (August 25):

     Five patients (aged 27-79) in a male psychiatric ward of the hospital have presented with symptoms of influenza-like illness since August 21. Four patients are being treated under isolation while one patient was transferred to the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital. Their condition is stable. Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients. Viral test results of all five patients are positive to Influenza A but negative to human swine influenza.

     Infection control measures have been enhanced in the ward concerned. Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended for the time being. All patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
