The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority (HA), Mr Shane Solomon, made the following statement today (August 25) regarding the medication incident at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH):
I have been informed of the QEH incident which happened on Sunday (August 23) and I am deeply concerned that failure to comply with established guidelines in checking and verification in the process of drug administration had led to the occurrence of the incident.
The hospital has completed the investigation and confirmed that the incident is an isolated event and that no other babies are unduly affected. QEH has conducted physical examinations and microbiology tests to ensure the well-being of the five babies concerned.
I apologise again to the parents of the five babies and pledge that QEH will continue to monitor closely the clinical situation of the babies and provide necessary assistance to the affected families.
