The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, today (August 24) visited Sai Kung District to meet local residents and learn about their daily life and needs for community services.
Accompanied by Sai Kung District Officer, Mr Peter Chan, Mr Wong visited Jolly Place in Tseung Kwan O, which is one of the Senior Citizen Residence Scheme (SEN) for the middle-income group operated by the Housing Society and managed by the Haven of Hope Christian Service.
The SEN concept aims to benefit the elderly by way of "healthy ageing" and "ageing in place". The housing units of Jolly Place are self-contained, and specially designed to integrate housing and services under one roof in a home-like context.
Mr Wong was briefed on the various facilities there, including rehabilitation/health centre, hydropool, gymnasium, care lounge and day room. He also called on an elderly couple who has been living in a residential unit there for five years.
He then proceeded to Direction Association for the Handicapped in Tiu Keng Leng, which is the first registered association primarily serving the severely physically handicapped.
Through providing suitable training courses and encouraging participation in activities, the association aims to develop the potential of its members in adopting a positive living manner with self-help and mutual-help spirit, and ultimately, to reintegrate them into the community with harmony.
During today's visit, Mr Wong also toured around Tseung Kwan O Public library, and met with members of the Sai Kung District Council and the District Fight Crime Committee to hear their views on the Government¡¦s anti-drug efforts and issues of concern in the district.
