Fitness for All in Support of EAG on August 8 (with photo)
**********************************************************

To coincide with National Fitness Day on August 8 (Saturday), to support the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) and to further promote Sport for All, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will organise "Fitness for All in Support of EAG" between 3pm and 6pm on that day. A wide variety of activities will be held at LCSD venues throughout the 18 districts to promote sports in the community and to encourage participation.

Members of the public are welcome to join the activities. Enrollment is free. Qualified instructors of various sports and professional speakers on sports and medical related issues will be stationed at the designated venues to demonstrate sports, offer test services and give talks.

Among the activities will be a physical fitness corner that provides tests and advisory services on physical fitness so that participants can learn more about their lung and heart functions, muscle flexibility and physiology. A fitness fun session will introduce gym facilities to participants who can enjoy exercising with these facilities. Participants can also join exercises to learn how to improve the flexibility and movement of different parts of their bodies.

There will also be an EAG exercise for public participation. To pave the way for "Fitness for All in Support of EAG", a series of free exercises has been organised by the LCSD in designated venues throughout the 18 districts since June 1. The EAG exercise, designed with the assistance of the Gymnastics Association of Hong Kong, China, uses the melody of the EAG theme song "You are the Legend" as background music and incorporates sports movements and rhythmic gymnastics.

Various districts including Central and Western, Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong, Yuen Long, Kwai Tsing and Sha Tin will also organise talks and offer tests on sports and medicine. There will be talks on nutrition, tests on elderly health and bone density. The Central and Western District will also offer to participants a choice of different sports customised for elite athletes to enable people to understand and experience how athletes choose their sports.

The "Fitness for All in Support of EAG" is jointly organised with the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China; the Gymnastics Association of Hong Kong, China; the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre; and Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science with the support of the 18 District Councils.
