A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) said there had been 225 newly confirmed cases of human swine influenza (HSI) (Influenza A H1N1) in the 24 hours to 2.30pm today (August 6). One of the cases was from an elderly home in Wong Tai Sin.
The new cases involve 111 males and 114 females, aged between 10 months and 83 years.
This brings to 4,974 the total number of human swine influenza cases in Hong Kong.
The case in the elderly home involved an 83-year-old woman who was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on August 5. Her condition is stable.
A respiratory specimen taken from her by the hospital tested positive for HSI.
DH staff have visited the institution and provided health advice, the spokesman said.
"There is no influenza-like illness outbreak in the institution and Tamiflu has been given to the staff and close contacts of the patient as antiviral chemoprophylaxis.
"The department will keep the staff and residents of the elderly home under medical surveillance," he said.
