Land Registry statistics for July 2009

     The Land Registry today (August 4) released its statistics for July.

Land registration
-----------------

* The number of sale and purchase agreements for all building units received for registration in July was 14,039 (-10.8% compared with June but +57.2% compared with July 2008)

* The 12-month moving average for July was 8,493 (5.3% above the 12-month moving average for June but 34.4% below that for July 2008)

* The total consideration of agreements in July was $53.6 billion (-7.9% compared with June but +63.9% compared with July 2008)

* Among the agreements, 12,023 were for residential units (-12.9% compared with June but +61.8% compared with July 2008)

* The total consideration for these agreements was $43.6 billion (-12.4% compared with June but +73.3% compared with July 2008)

     Sales of residential units refer to the sale and purchase agreements with payment of stamp duty.  These statistics do not include sales of units under the Home Ownership Scheme, the Private Sector Participation Scheme and the Tenants Purchase Scheme except those after payment of premium.

     Figures on sale and purchase agreements received for the past 12 months, the year-on-year rate of change and breakdown figures on residential sales are also released.

     As deeds may not be lodged with the Land Registry until up to 30 days after the transaction, these statistics generally relate to land transactions in the previous month.

Land search
-----------

* The number of searches of land registers made by the public in July was 489,506 (+0.8% compared with June and +18.6% compared with July 2008)

     The statistics cover searches made at the counter, through the self-service terminals and the IRIS Online Services.
