Influenza A outbreak at male ward of Kwai Chung Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) made the following announcement today (July 31):

     Since July 27, a total of five patients (aged from 33 to 76) of a male ward of Kwai Chung Hospital had presented with symptoms of fever and flu.  They are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  Viral test results of four patients are positive to Influenza A.  The hospital will continue to provide treatment to the patients and closely monitor their conditions.

     Admission and visiting to the ward concerned are suspended for the time being.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.  Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been enhanced.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
