Six employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 31) obtained an order in the District Court against an employer for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $79,000. The MPFA also pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $91,000 on behalf of 92 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against Solidwood Products Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $79,476.96, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 11 employees of the defendant.

     At the tribunal's hearing, Pakco Security (HK) Limited did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $49,360.04, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     Four defendants, Kwong Hop Label (HK) Limited, 668 Hong Kong Limited trading as Tai Lao Ye Restaurant (translation), Pridehill Limited and Tak Lun Industrial Company Limited, did not appear at the hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $20,946.07¡B$9,946.04, $6,337.01 and $4,455,being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $160, $190, $118, $145 and $150.
