Admission of eligible graduates to the Internship Programme for University Graduates (GIP) will begin on August 1.
"Hong Kong residents who have obtained full-time bachelor or higher degrees from local tertiary institutions or those outside Hong Kong in 2008 and 2009 are eligible to join the programme, with priority to be given to graduates of 2009," said Mr Raymond Ho, Programme Director of the GIP under the Labour Department.
"To facilitate participation in the programme, a dedicated website (www.gip.labour.gov.hk) was launched today (July 30). It provides information about the programme, including registration forms and guidelines, for graduates and enterprises/organisations interested in participating in GIP," Mr Ho said.
To apply, interested graduates may download the registration form from the dedicated website. Graduates of local tertiary institutions may return completed forms to their alma mater, which will provide job-matching and follow-up support services to their graduates. Hong Kong residents who have graduated from tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong may approach one of the Job Centres of the Labour Department for application.
GIP provides about 4,000 places for university graduates to work as interns and receive training for six to 12 months in local or Mainland enterprises/organisations. Up to 1,000 of these places are earmarked for Mainland internship opportunities.
"GIP commenced receiving internship vacancies on June 10. As of July 24, the average monthly salary of local internship vacancies accepted by the 12 participating tertiary institutions (PTIs) and the Labour Department is close to $8,600. The highest offer is $17,000.
"As regards the Mainland leg, there are internship opportunities in over 20 major cities, including Beijing, Chengdu, Dongguan, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Nanning, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Zhuhai. These internships cover a wide spectrum of industries, including banking, construction, hotel, insurance, manufacturing, real estate and tourism. They provide valuable opportunities for graduates to learn and experience the way of life on the Mainland, as well as to enhance their understanding of the operation of Mainland enterprises. The experience gained will certainly be beneficial to the career and personal development of the graduates.
"Interested graduates can choose from the wide array of available internship positions to embark on a career that best suits their own talents, strengths and interests," Mr Ho added.
