Young reporters write about summer youth programme
**************************************************

The public is invited to visit the Summer Youth Programme website to read the interesting reports on summer activities written by young reporters recruited under the "Voluntary Reporters Scheme". The first issue for this year's programme was released today (July 28).

The scheme, launched by the Home Affairs Department since 2007, has received a good response over the last two years.

A spokesman for the Home Affairs Department said that the scheme aimed to broaden the horizons of youngsters, enhance their confidence and improve their writing and communication skills through interviewing people from various walks of life.

"It is also hoped that participants of the scheme will have a deeper understanding of the summer youth activities through reporting and help promote the messages of these activities to their peers and readers.

"As in previous years, the department has selected several dozen activities, including orienteering and overseas exchange programmes, for reporting," the spokesman said.

Briefing sessions on reporting and interviewing techniques were arranged before the reporting activities for voluntary reporters while guidelines and information on the activities were also provided to assist them with the reporting.

Reports by the young reporters will be uploaded weekly onto the 2009 Summer Youth Programme newsletter at www.summeryouth.org.hk .
