The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 24) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $4,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by its employer.
Doshi Chintan Shashikant trading as Mahavir Diam, did not appear at the tribunal's hearing. The Adjudicator ordered Mahavir Diam to pay the MPFA $4,630, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $160.
