Legislative Council Subcommittee on Poverty Alleviation continued its duty visit to Taiwan (with photos)

     The Legislative Council Subcommittee on Poverty Alleviation continued its duty visit to Taiwan today (July 21) to understand the poverty alleviation strategies and measures put in place to help the disadvantaged groups.

     The delegation visited the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in the morning to understand their work in protecting the poor and abused children. In the afternoon, the delegation met with the representatives of the Children Are Us Foundation and received a briefing on the career counselling services and on-the-job training provided for the mentally retarded persons. They also visited a restaurant and a bakery run by the Foundation and operated by the mentally retarded persons to better understand their work. Members of the delegation also met with the Eden Social Welfare Foundation to get to know the caring and skills training programmes provided for persons with disabilities.

     The delegation will visit the Huashan Social Welfare Foundation (Elderly Welfare) and the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and attend a discussion forum on poverty alleviation in Taiwan tomorrow. In the evening, members of the delegation will leave Taipei and depart for Seoul to continue its duty visit.
