SED's remarks on arrangements for schools for the new school year
************************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, today (July 20) on arrangements for schools for the new school year:

We have decided that schools can start their new school term as scheduled beginning from next Monday.

I would like to express my gratitude to our school heads, teachers and parents for their concerted efforts in fighting against the human swine flu in the past few weeks. Although classes will resume, schools should stay alert and take all necessary preventive measures.

Schools should thoroughly clean and sterilise their campus before the first school day.

In order to support our schools to implement these preventive measures, the Education Bureau will provide another one-off grant of $3,000 to each school in order for them to purchase relevant equipment and other necessities.

     Thank you.
