The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
The Legislative Council Subcommittee on Poverty Alleviation departed for Taiwan and Republic of Korea today (July 19) to begin its seven-day overseas duty visit.
The purpose of the visit is for the members to better study the experience of poverty alleviation and social enterprise development in these places, includes obtaining first-hand information on the poverty alleviation strategies and measures put in place to help the disadvantaged groups; studying the experience in the development of social enterprises to provide job opportunities for the unemployed and disadvantaged, in particular their financing, operation and management; and exchanging views with the relevant parties involved in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of anti-poverty strategies, and the development and delivery of social enterprise projects.
During its stay in Taiwan, the delegation will meet with the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee of the Legislative Yuan, the Council of Labor Affairs of the Executive Yuan, Department of Labor and academics specializing in the work of poverty as well as visit some welfare organizations implementing programmes for the disadvantaged.
In Republic of Korea, the delegation will also meet with senior officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Social Enterprise Division of the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family as well as visit several social enterprises.
