JPC determined to say 'No' to drug
**********************************

Over 2 000 youngsters and Junior Police Call (JPC) members today (July 17) participated in various activities under the "JPC Territory-wide Anti-drug Day" campaign, showing their commitment and determination to say ¡¥No¡¦ to drug.

Making continued efforts in the fight against youth drug abuse, JPC throughout the territory have strengthened anti-drug publicity, in particular during summer holiday, with a new round of Anti-drug Day activities launched today.

JPC members of Wong Tai Sin District committed to cherish life and stay away from drug at a pledging ceremony in the "Say No To Drugs Pledge" variety show. A student representative of Christian Zheng Sheng College also shared painful experience of being a drug addict and urged young people to stay vigilant against drug-related activities.

Other JPC members also joined visits to the Drug InfoCentre and Christian Zheng Sheng College, and took part in seminars, mural painting competition as well as leaflet distribution.

As a prelude to the Anti-drug Day programme, the "Find My Way - Anti-drug Publicity Campaign" was held yesterday (July 16) in which over 100 youngsters and JPC members from Yau Tsim District pledged to fight against drug. They then joined an anti-drug relay, symbolising their concerted efforts to pass on anti-drug messages to their peers and the community as a whole.

A Police spokesman said:"We need every member of the public to join the battle against drug abuse. We will continue to foster close collaboration with schools and community organisations to promote anti-drug education and a positive attitude among the youth.

"In addition, stringent enforcement action will continue in order to deter drug-related crime and attack the supply of drug."

Launched last December and funded by the Beat Drugs Fund, the "JPC Territory-wide Anti-drug Day" campaign aims to reinforce anti-drug education and publicity among youngsters and to raise public awareness on the problem of youth drug abuse.
