A spokesman for the Department of Health said there had been 85 newly confirmed cases of human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1) in the 24 hours to 2.30pm today (July 16).
The new cases involve 41 males and 44 females, aged between seven months and 57 years.
This brings to 1,552 the total number of human swine influenza (HSI) cases in Hong Kong.
The 85 cases included a 42-year-old man who was infected with community-associated Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus and passed away in Ruttonjee Hospital on July 10.
The spokesman said the specimen taken from the man yielded positive result to HSI.
"Post-mortem examination will be performed to determine the cause of his death", he said.
So far, there had been six serious infections of HSI in Hong Kong involving two men and four women aged between 23 and 76, he said.
Four of them are in serious condition while the other two are critical.
