Tung Wah Hospital parainfluenza outbreak

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson of Tung Wah Hospital (TWH) made the following announcement today (July 15):

     Four in-patients residing at a male infirmary ward in TWH have presented with fever and respiratory symptoms since July 4. The hospital has arranged appropriate clinical tests for the patients.  The result confirmed parainfluenza infection but negative for human swine flu or influenza A virus.  All concerned patients are receiving isolation treatment and are in stable condition.  The hospital has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.

     Infection control measures of the concerned ward have been stepped up.  New admission to the ward has been suspended immediately while visiting arrangements remain unchanged. The hospital will keep close surveillance on the condition of the concerned patients.
