Cody Choi will bring his journey of choreography from the UK, the Netherlands and Germany to Hong Kong by "Having Fun, Seriously" with energetic dancers next month.
The Hong Kong-born choreographer will share his extraordinary productions from Europe, including "Devil Art"which was performed at the Rudolf Steiner Theatre, "Mm" commissioned by the Royal Opera House, "Untitled" which was choreographed for the Springs Dance Company, UK, and a brand new choreography "Play".
Choreographer and dancer Choi graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2000 and then joined the Transitions Dance Company in London. He has extensive international performing experience including three world tour seasons with Matthew Bourne's "Swan Lake", De Vlaamse Opera, English National Opera, Royal National Theatre, American Dance Festival and London Chinese Culture Centre. International choreographers he has worked with include Arthur Pita, Neville Campbell, Saju Hari and Boi Sakti. Choi was invited to be a panel judge at the national Big Dance event organised by the Mayor of London, Arts Council England and the BBC. He was back in Hong Kong in 2007 when he choreographed for the Hong Kong Dance Alliance, Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He was invited to be one of the choreographers of the "Asia Young Choreographers Project 2008" in Taiwan.
The Moving Group was founded by Choi and Ada Ooi last year. It aims to explore the breakthrough moments of the human body and the mind through different artistic mediums. The company is keen to collaborate with global arts professionals to allow the public to experience the limitless expressions of the human body.
"Having Fun, Seriously" is one of the attractions of the "New Force in Motion Series" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm on August 14 and 15 (Friday and Saturday); and 3pm on August 15 and 16 (Saturday and Sunday) at Cultural Activities Hall, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $160 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to ticket purchase with "New Force in Motion Series: Transitory in Nature ¡D Audible Growth by Chloe Wong". A group booking discount is also available.
