Government closely monitors situation in Yunnan after earthquake
******************************************************

The Security Bureau and the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Beijing are closely monitoring the situation in Yao¡Šan County in Yunnan Province after yesterday's earthquake, to assist any Hong Kong residents in need.

An HKSAR government spokesman said today (July 10) that up to 5pm, the Immigration Department had received six enquiries. No requests for assistance have been received.

According to the travel trade, Hong Kong tour groups there are safe. The location of the earthquake is not a tourist attraction, so the itinerary of the groups is not affected.

Residents who need assistance while outside Hong Kong may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852)1868.
