The Land Registry today (July 10) launched an enhanced version of its well-received e-Memorial Form. The new e-Memorial Form is available for downloading free-of-charge from the registryˇ¦s website (www.landreg.gov.hk) from today.
The Land Registry launched the e-Memorial Form in 2007 as a convenient and cost-saving alternative to the conventional paper form. The initiative has been welcomed by users. To further improve efficiency, the enhanced e-Memorial Form is embedded with new and more extended user-friendly functions.
One significant innovation is that key particulars entered in the memorial form will be converted into a two-dimensional barcode to be printed on the form. By scanning the barcode, the data will be read into the Land Registry computer system for scrutiny and registration. This automated process will improve the efficiency and accuracy of updating the land registers concerned.
The Land Registry will continue to enhance its e-services to customers. A new search system has been scheduled for launch by mid-2010. The new system will be built with an enhanced technical design to ensure that search services to customers will be delivered in a stable manner. The online service hours will also be extended from the present 16 hours to no less than 20 hours a day. Separately, another computer system will be developed to provide IT support for the future operation of title registration. E-application forms will also be made available for the specified application forms under the Land Titles Ordinance. To promote the wider use of e-Government services to the public, the Land Registry intends to introduce e-lodgement services in the longer term.
