To promote the public's continued participation in the fight against the influenza pandemic, the North District Office and North District Council jointly held a health talk at North District Community Centre, Sheung Shui, today (July 9). Residents and representatives from property management companies, residents' organisations and local organisations attended.
At the talk, a registered nurse from the Department of Health explained the symptoms, mode of transmission and preventive measures of human swine influenza, and reminded citizens of the importance of observing personal, household and environmental hygiene. Disinfectant packs were distributed to participants to encourage them to join in the fight against the pandemic.
District Officer (North), Mr Johann Wong, said, "The talk aimed to enhance public awareness of the prevention of influenza and enrich their health and hygiene knowledge. We will also tour the housing estates and various locations in the district by organising bus parades this Saturday and next month to get the message across to the whole community."
To disseminate health messages to residents, the North District Office and North District Council will organise three more health talks in Fanling, Ta Kwu Ling and Sha Tau Kok on July 17, 23 and 31 respectively.
