The Hong Kong delegation achieved encouraging results in the just concluded 1st Asian Youth Games (AYG) by winning a total of 18 medals, comprising five gold, eight silver and five bronze.
The Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Leisure Services), Mr Bobby Cheng, and the Assistant Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Leisure Services), Miss Olivia Chan, welcomed the athletes home upon their arrival at the Hong Kong International Airport from Singapore today (July 7).
The Hong Kong, China Delegation participating this year comprised 71 members including 46 athletes. They took part in six out of the nine official sports: aquatics (swimming), athletics, bowling, football, sailing (windsurfing) and table tennis.
The AYG is an international multi-sport event, held every four years, that aims to provide an opportunity for young athletes to cultivate friendship and sportsmanship.
The Singapore 1st AYG began on June 29 and ended on July 7. A total of 45 countries and regions with some 1,400 athletes participated in it.
