The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, congratulated Hong Kong athletes upon their triumphant return today (July 7) for winning 18 medals in the Asian Youth Games, comprising five gold, eight silver and five bronze.
Mr Tsang commended the outstanding achievement of the athletes. ˇ§With unswerving efforts to excel, the young athletes have competed for the highest standard and demonstrated good sportsmanship. The experience gained in the games will prepare the athletes to attain better performance in forthcoming major sports events,ˇ¨ he said.
More than 40 countries/regions took part in the 1st Asian Youth Games in Singapore from June 29 to July 7. The Hong Kong delegation, comprising some 40 athletes, scored fifth place in the medal tally.
