Urumqi-bound HK travellers should watch local situation

     The Security Bureau and the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Beijing are closely monitoring the situation in Urumqi, Xinjiang, after the unrest there yesterday, a HKSAR government spokesman said today (July 6).

      "We understand that Hong Kong tour groups there have adjusted their travel plans to avoid the affected areas," the spokesman said. The Security Bureau also advised Hong Kong residents there to pay attention to their personal safety.

     Residents who need assistance while outside Hong Kong may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852)1868.
