The "2009 Wong Tai Sin District Summer Youth Programme Cum Around District Relay" was held at Wong Tai Sin Temple Court today (July 5).
Wong Tai Sin District Officer Mrs Teresa Wong, Wong Tai Sin District Council Chairman Mr Li Tak-hong, 2009 Wong Tai Sin Summer Youth Programme Co-ordinating Committee Chairman Mr Mok Chung-fai and other guests officiated at the ceremony to mark the start of the 2009 Wong Tai Sin District Summer Youth Programme.
To tie in with the East Asian Games to be held at the end of the year, some 60 teenagers from various non-governmental organisations took part in the "Around District Relay". They started from Wong Tai Sin Temple Court and ran in the district via Wong Tai Sin Shopping Centre, Tung Tau Tsuen Road and Fung Mo Street to promote the "2009 Wong Tai Sin District Summer Youth Programme". The relay reflected the slogan "Be Confident + Be Positive, Be an Achiever" of 2009 Summer Youth Programme.
Apart from the "Around District Relay" and various stage performances, games booths on the theme of the 2009 East Asian Games were set up. The mascots of the games, Dony and Ami, greeted residents in the district and posed for the cameras with participants.
Mrs Wong said, "This year's Summer Youth Programme closely ties in with the slogan 'Be Confident + Be Positive, Be an Achiever' and a series of programmes will also be held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Teenagers can learn about changes in various aspects of the country, and experience the connections between their own lives and the development of Mainland China."
Mr Mok said, "The 2009 Wong Tai Sin Summer Youth Programme Co-ordinating Committee will also hold a series of activities to encourage teenagers to be confident and build up positive values in life."
