Widening of Tolo Highway/Fanling Highway gazetted

     The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (July 3) on the proposed Stage 2 works for widening of Tolo Highway/Fanling Highway between Island House Interchange and Fanling. The project aims to increase the capacity of the strategic road network to meet the future traffic demand generated by the increasing cross-boundary traffic and the population growth in the Northeast New Territories.

     The proposed works include widening of a section of Fanling Highway between Tai Hang and Wo Hop Shek Interchange; widening of the southbound slip road at Wo Hop Shek Interchange; realignment of a section of Tai Wo Service Road West from Tai Hang to Nam Wa Po and a section of Tai Wo Service Road East from Kiu Tau to Tong Hang Tung; construction of at-grade carriageways, footpaths, cycle tracks, access tracks, footbridges, a pedestrian and cycle bridge and a vehicular bridge with associated walkway; ancillary works including drainage, geotechnical and landscaping works and so on.

     Some sections of the existing at-grade carriageways, footpaths, cycle tracks, footbridges, pedestrian and cycle bridge, and vehicular bridges will be permanently or temporarily closed.

     The construction work will start in the second half of 2010 and will be completed by 2014.  

     The plans and scheme are available for public inspection at the following places during office hours:

(i) Central and Western District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Unit 5, Ground Floor, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central;
(ii) Tai Po District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Ground Floor, Tai Po Government Offices Building, 1 Ting Kok Road, Tai Po;
(iii) North District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Ground Floor, North District Government Offices, 3 Pik Fung Road, Fanling;
(iv) District Lands Office, Tai Po, 1st Floor, Tai Po Government Offices Building, 1 Ting Kok Road, Tai Po; and
(v) District Lands Office, North, 6th Floor, North District Government Offices, 3 Pik Fung Road, Fanling.

     Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or the use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 16/F, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong, on or before September 1.
