Appointment of chairman and members of HK Export Credit Insurance Corporation Advisory Board
********************************************************

The Government announced today (June 26) the appointment of Mr Willy Lin as chairman of the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation (ECIC) Advisory Board.

The Government also re-appointed Ms Sylvia Chung and appointed Ms Betty Ku as members of the advisory board.  The three appointees will serve a term of two years with effect from July 1, 2009.

The appointments and re-appointment were made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development in exercise of the power delegated to her by the Chief Executive under section 10(3) of the ECIC Ordinance (Cap. 1115).

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, thanked the out-going chairman, Mr Jeffrey Lam, for his contribution during his chairmanship since 2003.  Under his leadership, the ECIC has improved its services and increased its support for Hong Kong exporters.  During the current financial crisis, Mr Lam has overseen the successful implementation of a number of enhancement measures launched to assist small and medium enterprises.

The ECIC was established in 1966 to provide insurance protection for Hong Kong exporters against non-payment risks arising from commercial and political incidents.  It is wholly owned by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, which also guarantees its liabilities.
