Closure of unlicensed food premises in Mong Kok

     The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), in a joint operation with other relevant departments, closed down an unlicensed food premises in Mong Kok this morning (June 25).

     The unlicensed food premises are located at the rear portion of ground floor, 160 and 162 Portland Street, Mong Kok.

     ˇ§The unlicensed food business conducted at the premises caused serious hygiene problems in the environment nearby. It continued intermittently despite our operations and prosecution. We successfully obtained a closure order from the court on June 16 to close down the premises,ˇ¨ an FEHD spokesman said.

     ˇ§The closure order shall remain in force but any person who has an interest in the premises in respect of which the order is made may apply to court to rescind the order.  The court shall make its decision having considered the current situation of the concerned premises.ˇ¨

     ˇ§Any person who fails to observe a closure order made by the court commits an offence and will be liable to a maximum fine of $100,000 and 12 months' imprisonment plus a daily fine of $1,750 if the offence continues.

      ˇ§We will continue to take enforcement actions against unlicensed food businesses to protect public health and food safety,ˇ¨ he stressed.
