DH advises five secondary schools to suspend classes

     The Department of Health (DH) today (June 24) advised five secondary schools in Kowloon Tong, Sha Tin and Wong Tai Sin to have summer break tomorrow to stop the possible spread of human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1) in the schools.

     The advice was made following the confirmation of five human swine influenza cases in the schools, a DH spokesman said.

     The first case involved a 14-year-old boy, a Form Two student of Rhenish Church Pang Hok-ko Memorial College in Kowloon Tong. He had onset of symptoms on June 19.

     The second case involved a 15-year-old boy, a Form Four student of Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School in Sha Tin. He had onset of symptoms on June 21.

     The third case involved a 14-year-old boy, a Form Two student of Po Leung Kuk No.1 W.H. Cheung College in Wong Tai Sin. He had onset of symptoms on June 22.

     The fourth case involved a 12-year-old girl, a Form One student of Buddhist Hung Sean Chau Memorial College in Wong Tai Sin. She had onset of symptoms on June 21.

     The fifth case involved a 13-year-old girl, a Form Two student of CCC Kei Heep Secondary School in Wong Tai Sin.  She had onset of symptoms on June 21.

     The five patients will be admitted to hospital for isolation tonight.

     They are now in stable condition.

     Investigations into the cases are ongoing.

     The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
