EDB announces 14-day class suspension of four secondary schools
********************************************************

     The Education Bureau (EDB) announced today (June 21) that classes of four schools would be suspended for 14 days from today until July 4 (Saturday).

     The four schools are:

(1)   Heep Yunn School in Kowloon City;
(2)   Cotton Spinners Association Secondary School in Kwai Tsing;
(3)   Lok Sin Tong Wong Chung Ming Secondary School in Wong Tai Sin; and
(4)   SPHRC Kung Yik She Secondary School in Yuen Long.

     The decision was made after a joint assessment by EDB and the Department of Health (DH) upon confirmation of contracted cases of human swine influenza in the schools.  Class suspension started from today as it was a Sunday and there was no schooling in these schools.

     In addition, DH advised the Chinese International School to step up its cleansing and disinfection as a student who had attended the school earlier was found to be infected with human swine influenza today.  The school had already commenced its summer break on June 20.

     DH was actively tracing students and teachers who might have been in contact with the contracted students and would offer necessary medical surveillance for those in need.

     An EDB spokesman said the schools would put in place contingency measures relating to class suspension and inform parents of the arrangements.

     During the class suspension period, the schools would strengthen measures to ensure environmental hygiene, including thoroughly cleansing and disinfecting the school premises, and arrange staff to be on duty to handle school affairs and answer parents' enquiries.

     EDB will maintain close liaison with DH and the schools to offer timely support and advice.
