EDB announces 14-day class suspension of 4 secondary schools
************************************************************

     The Education Bureau (EDB) announced today (June 19) that classes of four schools would be suspended for 14 days between tomorrow (June 20) and July 3 (Friday).

     The four schools are:

(1) Lui Cheung Kwong Lutheran College and Lui Cheung Kwong Lutheran Evening College in Tuen Mun;
(2) Renaissance College in Shatin;
(3) YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College in Tung Chung; and
(4) Ling Liang Church M H Lau Secondary School in Tai Po

     The decision was made after a joint assessment by EDB and the Department of Health (DH) upon confirmation of contracted cases of human swine influenza in the schools.

     DH was actively tracing students and teachers who might have been in contact with the contracted students/teacher and would offer treatment and necessary medical surveillance for those in need.

     An EDB spokesman said the schools would put in place contingency measures relating to class suspension and inform parents of the arrangements.

     During the class suspension period, the schools would strengthen measures to ensure environmental hygiene, and arrange staff to be on duty to handle school affairs and answer parents' enquiries.

     The EDB spokesman added that the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department would arrange to thoroughly cleanse and disinfect the school premises.

     EDB will maintain close liaison with DH and the schools to offer timely support and advice.
