Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 19) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $40,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Solidwood Products Limited and Hoi On Security Company Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $29,651.70 and $10,413.23 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $165 and $146.

     Hoi On Security Company Limited was previously fined $8,000 for failing to enrol an employee in an MPF scheme as required by the ordinance.
