Views sought on domestic free television programme services
***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Broadcasting Authority:

The Broadcasting Authority has published an information booklet on the mid-term review of the Domestic Free Television Programme Service Licences of Asia Television Limited (ATV) and Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) to facilitate public discussion.

The information booklet contains summaries on the current programming and advertising requirements for television broadcasting, the licensees' services, complaint records and their investment plans. This information enhances the public's knowledge about the services provided by the licensees, and facilitates them to give views on different areas of the performance of ATV and TVB.

Members of the public can collect the information booklet at the district offices of the Home Affairs Department starting from today (June 17). They can also visit the Broadcasting Authority website (www.hkba.hk) for details.

To engage the public in the consultation of the mid-term review, the authority will organise public hearing sessions in June and July. Members of the public can call 2594 5926 or email to ba@tela.gov.hk for details and registration.

Apart from the public hearings, written comments on the mid-term review are invited and can be sent to the Broadcasting Authority by mail to: 39/F, Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai; by fax to 2507 2219; or by email to ba@tela.gov.hk. The deadline for submissions is July 31.

Being the statutory body that regulates broadcasters in Hong Kong, the authority will evaluate the licensees' performance against the various statutory requirements as well as requirements under the licences and the codes of practice before making recommendations to the Chief Executive in Council for the purpose of mid-term review of the licences of the two broadcasters.
