CSSA caseload for May

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in May showed an increase of 402 cases over April, representing an increase of 0.1%, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (June 17).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of May stood at 289,600 (see attached table), with a total of 481,994 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed an increase of 0.9% to 33,799.

     Single parent cases registered a month-to-month increase of 0.1% to 36,896.

     Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of0.3% to stand at 16,088.

     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $18 billion for 2007-08.
